Additionally, he graduated from the executive programs at Stanford University, Harvard University, and the Wharton School of Business. At first, Godwin Emefiele taught finance and insurance at the Universities of Nigeria Nsukka and Port Harcourt. He also briefly worked for Vodafone.

Since 2014, Emefiele has presided as governor of the Nigerian Central Bank. At the direction of the president, he oversaw an interventionist currency strategy during his first term, he also implemented a multiple exchange rate regime.
