For over ten years now, Manchester United has become well known for its extravagant spending and propensity to spend money quickly without producing much in return.
The Red Devils have one of the most expensively put-together teams in the world right now, and their current players earn some of the highest salaries in the sport.
United has spent a lot of money, but they haven’t had much success on the field. Meanwhile, their players keep getting paid well despite their poor play.
Below is a compiled list of the ten players who earn the highest salary at Manchester United;
10. Harry Maguire: £190,000.
In the summer of 2019, Manchester United paid a whopping £80 million to acquire center-back Harry Maguire from Leicester City, breaking the previous record for the highest fee paid for a defender.
Harry Maguire was made the leader after a promising startup career in Man United, but since the arrival of Dutch coach Erik ten Hag prior to the 2022–23 season, the 29-year-old has been warming the bench for substitutes.
9. Antony: £200,000
Brazilian winger became Manchester United’s biggest acquisition during the summer when the Red Devils agreed to pay a fee of roughly £85 million to bring the 22-year-old to the Premier League from Ajax in the Netherlands.
The fact that Antony managed to score against Arsenal on his Premier League debut and in each of his subsequent two appearances suggests that the former Sao Paolo starlet may be one of the few United players to earn his sizable salary this season.
Antony is anticipated to play a crucial role in Qatar later this year for a Brazil team that has been strongly favored to contend for the World Cup title in many experts’ predictions
8. Marcus Rashford – £200,000
Marcus Rashford was given a sizable long-term contract by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in July 2019, and while the club’s academy graduate initially justified his manager’s faith, a combination of bad form and injuries hindered his progress.
Under Erik ten Hag, Rashford seems to have found his mojo again. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, but United has the option to extend it by one more season.
7.Bruno Fernandes – £240,000
Just fifteen months after joining the team from Sporting CP in Portugal, Bruno Fernandes signed improved terms in April of this year.
Despite his few inconsistent performances, the midfielder signed his new contract while still having a significant impact in England.
In as much as Fernandes has yet to regain his ruthlessly effective early form at Old Trafford, Man United will hope that his consistency returns soon.
7. Anthony Martial, £250.000
The injured French forward Anthony Martial signed a long-term improved contract with United in January 2019 under the previous manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Still, his career with the team appeared to be in jeopardy soon after due to a decline in form and a loan move to Sevilla in Spain.
Despite the speedy attacker’s continued struggles with staying healthy, Martial appears to have gained Erik ten Hag’s trust this season.
5. Casemiro – £300,000
When Casemiro, a veteran player, was acquired by Manchester United from Real Madrid in the summer for almost £70 million, he immediately became one of the highest-paid players at the club. Casemiro has won multiple Champions Leagues while playing in midfield. Many players at United make more than £300,000 a week, including Casemiro.
4. Raphael Varane $340,000
Raphael Varane moved to Manchester United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2021, bringing with him a plethora of awards and a sterling reputation, though a string of injuries has so far interfered with his time in England.
However, under Erik ten Hag and with defensive partner Lisandro Martinez, the French international looks back to his best performances this season, at least for the time being.
Varane appears to be worth every cent of his £340,000 weekly wage.
3.Jadon Sancho, £350,000
Jadon Sancho was coveted by Manchester United for more than a year before they finally managed to pry him away from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Despite this, the 22-year-old wide attacker hasn’t quite lived up to expectations in the Premier League. Sancho is receiving top-tier pay from United, and they need to see a return on their investment as soon as possible.
2. David de Gea, £375,000
For the first time in his 11 years at United, Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea received the highest salary in the world in 2019.
Thoughts have been raised about whether United will renew De Gea’s contract when it expires in the summer of 2023, especially given the rate at which the 31-year-old goalkeeper is currently paid.
That decision appeared poorly thought out when De Gea made a string of errors in crucial matches.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo: £515,385
Cristiano Ronaldo returned to the Theatre of Dreams in 2021, 11 years after the storied Portuguese striker first left the club, after Manchester United successfully fended off interest from rival City late in the summer transfer window.
Ronaldo, 37, has cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines this season as a new United team takes shape under Erik ten Hag despite his eye-watering wages.
