Early Life

Jonathan Stuart Bailey was born on 25 April 1988 in Wallingford. His mother was an audiologist while his father was a managing director. Jonathan was raised in the nearby village of Benson with his four older siblings, Jonathan is the only son of his parents.

Jonathan got the inspiration to become an actor after he went to see a production of Lionel Bart’s “Oliver!” in London with his grandmother. He first appeared on stage in his primary school’s production of Noah’s Ark where he played the role of a raindrop.

Jonathan took ballet lessons while attending The Oratory School, he got a music scholarship to study at Magdalen College School, Oxford. He plays the Clarinet and the Piano. He made his television debut at 8 in the Victorian drama “Bramwell”, he also got a role in “Les Enfants du Paradis”, and he got a role to play Gavroche in the West End Production of “Les Miserables”.
Jonathan played Prince Arthur in RSC’s production of “King John” in 2001, and he made his feature film debut in 2004 in a film adaptation of E.Nesbit’s novel “Five Children and It”. He took over the lead role in “Beautiful Thing” from Andrew Garfield. He also got guest roles in British Tv shows like “The Bill”, “Off The Hook”, and “Doctors”

2011-2017: Rise to Popularity/Breakthrough 

Bailey played Leonardo Da Vinci in CBBC’s action-adventure series “Leornado” in 2011, the show received four  KidScreen Awards. He starred in “Campus” in the same year, and he got a nomination for Outstanding Newcomer at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his role in “South Downs”.

Bailey starred in a Disney Channel Comedy musical “Groove High” (2012-2013). Jonathan’s popularity tripled with his role in “BroadChurch”.
