Zhong created a bottled water company in Hangzhou in 1996, which later became Nongfu Spring. Nongfu Spring stopped removing natural minerals from its water in 1999. The company grew to be the largest bottled water maker in China under the leadership of Zhong and also one of the largest beverage companies on the planet.
The company beat out some industries like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Watsons to become the best-selling package beverage brand. This allowed for unparalleled market expansion across the country and transformed this once humble company into a leviathan of epic proportions.
In 2012, Nongfu Springs’s natural water became the most popular bottled water according to Nielsen research data. Nongfu Spring was the number one seller of packaged beverages in China since 2012. it was still dominant for complete 8 years.
