Early Life
On March 28, 1936, Gaither was born to George and Lela Gaither. Bill Gaither Trio, was the first group he created consisting of Bill, his sister Mary Ann (1945–2018), and brother Danny Gaither. He graduated from Anderson in 1959 with a minor in music and a major in English.
When he graduated from school, he worked as an English teacher. Later in 1962, he got married to the former Gloria Sickal. He quit his teaching in 1967 after trying for several years to manage both his music career and his full-time teaching job. He later works full-time in the Christian music industry.

In 1962 when he got married, he started performing with his wife, Gloria. She took the place of Mary Ann in the Trio in 1964. Gaither and Gloria have written many songs which include “Sinner Saved By Grace”, “Jesus, There’s Something About That Name”, “Let’s Just Praise The Lord”, “It Is Finished”, “I’m Gonna Sing”, “The King Is Coming”, “Something Beautiful”, and “He Touched Me” in 1964.
Gaither Music Company was founded by Gaither when he experienced success, including the functions of the record company, television production, retail store, concert booking (Gaither Management Group), recording studio (Gaither Studios, formerly Pinebrook Studios) and telemarketing for the Gaither organization resides.
Included as part of the company is Live Bait Productions, an animation company run by Benjy Gaither, one of Bill’s three children
In the 1980s, Gaither was involved with Paragon Associates, which formed a partnership with Zondervan to buy Benson Records, which is now part of Sony BMG Music Entertainment.
Gaither and entrepreneur Leland Boren became partners in 1994 and founded the Brentwood, Tennessee-based Chapel Hill Music Group. The group name was later changed to Spring Hill Music Group.
