On December 13, 1967, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike was born. He is an indigene of Rivers State. He obtained his secondary education at the Government Secondary School Eneka in Obiakpor, Rivers State; he later advanced for his tertiary studies at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUT), where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Political and Administrative Studies.
Political Career
Wike began his political career in 1999 as the Executive Chairman of Rivers’ Obio Akpor Local Government Area, a position he held until 2007, after being re-elected in 2003. He was selected to work as Rotimi Amaechi’s chief of staff in 2007.
President Goodluck Jonathan designated him as the Minister of State for Education in July 2011. In September 2013, he was elevated to the position of Federal Minister of Education. He resigned from his position as Federal Minister in order to run for governor of Rivers State in the 2015 governorship elections.
Ameliorations
Nyesom Wike enacted a law making public primary and secondary education free as part of his aspirations to revamp education. He revealed this, in a meeting held at the government house in Port Harcourt on Monday, June 24, 2019.
